A fine and eminently sporting matched pair of W. Horton Imperial boxlock ejector guns, Glasgow, housed in their original fitted case lined in regimental colours. 12 bore with 2.5" chambers, these guns were completed in 1906 and 1908 respectively and represent Horton workmanship at its most confident and mature.

Both guns are built on quality boxlock actions fitted with intercepting sears, a detail always indicative of a higher-grade Horton and one rarely encountered on ordinary trade boxlocks of the period. They carry serial numbers 2365 and 2719, close enough to be considered a true working pair rather than a casual later association.

The pair is delightfully lively in the hands, weighing 6 lb 9 oz and 6 lb 8 oz, making them ideal for walked-up game or driven days where balance and speed of mount are paramount. Stocks are well proportioned with a length of pull of 14¾ inches to centre and heel, and 15¼ inches to toe, finished with a slim ebonite pad entirely in keeping with the Edwardian period. A subtle ? inch cast-off for the right-handed shot, combined with 1½ inches drop at comb and 1? inches at heel, gives a naturally correct and instinctive gun fit. Both guns are fitted with double triggers, as any discerning sportsman of the era would expect.

Choking is sensibly arranged for versatility across the pair. Gun No. 1 is choked Skeet/Skeet, perfectly suited to close birds and woodland shooting, while Gun No. 2 is choked Modified in the right barrel and Full in the left, offering longer reach for higher or more distant game. Together, the pair provides an elegant and practical solution for changing conditions without compromise.

Of particular note is the inclusion of several distinctive Horton patents, most notably the Polygrip top lever, a hallmark of the firm’s innovative approach to ergonomics and handling. These patented features, combined with the intercepting sears and refined proportions, firmly place the guns above the level of standard provincial boxlocks.

Altogether, this is a rare, well-matched Edwardian pair from one of Scotland and Birmingham’s most respected gunmaking families: light, fast, mechanically correct, and rich in original character. A superb opportunity for the collector or sporting shot seeking a matched pair with genuine provenance, technical interest, and undeniable field utility.
