Stock shapes – Straight hand or pistol, which is better and why?

A post we did on our Grulla shotgun site in October 2017 is a very useful read for those unfamiliar with the terminology and the benefits of stock shapes on both over and under and side by side shotguns.

Do you know why English guns classically come with a straight hand stock? What is the benefit of such a format that is seen on all the classic English guns such as Holland & Holland, Purdey, Woodward, Boss, Westley Richards et al? Click on the image below to read about the various stock shapes on shotguns.

W Horton & Sons have several Grulla in various formats and gauges ready for the season ahead, please check out our gunroom or get in touchif you’d like a Gun from either Grulla, Chapuis, Merkel or Zoli making to your measurements. Or indeed one of our own classic Birmingham made Horton side by side shotguns.
