Introducing Horton remade guns

This is not a new concept, but one that we believe will be of particular interest to clients who either own, or want to own an old English gun of distinction, from makers such as Boss, Purdey, Holland & Holland, Henry Atkin, Stephen Grant or Joseph Lang to name but a few.

In the current guise with 2 1/2 chambers it is impossible to shoot steel. Cartridges to suit 2 1/2″ chambers don’t currently exist and it is impossible to make a usable steel cartridge in 65mm (it has been tried). As our previous post on the trouble with lead shot through an old gun explains, we may be able to help if you find yourself in this position.

We have the ability to re-barrel and/or re-stock any old English gun, regardless of condition. This service has been born from of the sheer volume of inquiries we have received for Grulla shotguns, where clients have looked to retire their old family heirlooms with matching pairs of continental guns. In many instances and with our guidance they have chosen to invest a lesser amount into re-barrelling (proofed in Birmingham for superior steel) their old guns, most of which are beautiful weapons despite their age. This course of action will see them used for another 100+ years and of course, pass on to the next generation. We currently have two pairs in process in our workshops and they will be ready for next season, when Coronavirus finally ceases to be the only word on our lips and the lockdown is lifted.

We have a beautiful matched pair of Stephen Grant & Sons sidelevers which will very soon be completely remade to good as new quality and offered for sale. So what do we mean by ‘remade’ – New stocks, new barrels proofed for superior steel, all internal components of the action remade and engraving rejuvenated yet retaining age which is so desired by owners. In essence, you get a virtually new pair of guns with a three year warranty, fitted to specifically to you and for a fraction of the price of buying new English guns and at a price comparable to purchasing new continental guns of a similar quality and grade.

We can also source guns to order if you wish, through our extensive network within the gun and auction trade. So, despite the Coronavirus and the gloom which surrounds it, there really has never been a better time to buy a Horton remade gun.

If you would like further information on our Remade guns, or to discuss re-barreling or re-stocking your own old English guns, then please get in touch as we may well be able to complete your guns in time for the season.
